The # stamped on plate by distributor are 0258603F54XA and the (03) are stamped deeper than the rest. Would really appreciate any feedback

Here is the "overexplanation" of what everyone else said if you wonder where you could find the info yourself. These two sites should tell you what you need to know. Look under 1954 - 1957 Engines on the first page and you will see an example and explanation of how your engine number is laid out. You won't find the "XA" explained on this page. http://chevy.tocmp.com/models/engine.htm#54engThis second site provided by one of our site sponsors gives the XA definition. It sure helps to have all these experts at your fingertips. I will probably be asking alot of question this is my 1st restoration . Your answers are all correct, the truck I'm restoring is a 1954 5window 3600 1st series.

There is no need to say "1st series" for a 1954 truck - there was only one series in 1954. In 1955, there was a 1st series (that looked a lot like the 1954 truck) and a completely new design 1955 2nd series.
