| | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 1 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 1 | hi. i got a 1940 chev 1.5 ton dumptruck. trouble is there is no VIN anywhere on this truck. it was bought from a wreckers and rebuilt in the early 60's for farm use so they never bothered with anything like that. wondered if anyone had any ideas on this or had similar problems.

If you have a parts truck in the same era that hasn't been registered for like 30 or 40 years I would just take the serial number off that truck. The registration people don't keep records dating back that far. So when you go and register the truck the serial number that you put on the truck now belongs to it according to the registration people.

welcome to the bolt. I have used the wrecking yard outside of your town there, and they were pretty decent!
In Ontario they don't generally keep records after about five years of inactivity. Go to an MOT License office and ask them what you will need. You will probably need as sworn statement at some point. I used my lawyer for that. Eventually you will need to state an amount that you paid for the truck and they will charge you GST.
Can't wait to see some photos!
