Does anyone have information on decoding the tag for a T4 transmission. I want to knoiw the gear ratio's. I have found many T5 charts, but not a T4. Is the only difference in the T4 and T5 the 5th overdrive gear? I am putting it in my 55 Chevy Truck with a 235. Any tricks I should know about doing this conversion?

I have a T-4 that someone gave me because it was blown up, apparently came behind a 4 banger S-10. I'd have it checked out and don't abuse it or it will scatter like mine.

nice thing about the t-4 is you can always upgrade later because the t-5 will bolt right in it's place. i have one laying around that was free and have been trying to confirm if the guts are the same as t5 for spare parts.

Get a late 80,s early 90,s T-5 & put the tail housing & speedo gear from the T-4 on it. The T-4 is not worth the swap. The idea is to get away from the low rear end ratio.s.

Is that the years for the electronic speedo? Are the tail shaft cases interchangable between the manual and electronic speedo's years.

The tail housings are interchangable. They don,t come right off though. Get o-haul instructions to remove them.

There are two different T5's. You don't want the Borg Warner T5 that came out of the S-10s. Even though it will bolt up to a V8, it can't take as much abuse as a T5 out of a Mustang. I'm not sure what years or models of stang it came out of. I just had this conversation the other day with a buddy of mine. I asked a couple people afterwards, and they all agreed with him. So, the general consensus is go for the stang's T5.

chevy_jenny, Ok, how do you bolt that stang T-5 to a GM bellhousing? Got an adaptor? I've been told the ultimate T-5 would be from a Camaro V8, close ratio and bullet proof. Plus you can swap the tail housing/shaft from your S-10 unit.

I'm honestly not sure. That's just what the general consensus was from a couple of different shops. I can ask my friend if you'd like.

Please ask your friends. I didn't think the bolt patterns were the same. That would be good information to know.

What modifications need to be made to change the tail housing on a Camaro T5 with the S-10? Is this what they call a "hybrid". If you change the tail housing from a S10 manual speedo onto a S10 T-5 are there any modification that need to be done?
