For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 13 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 13 | Old chevy dump truck that I have been loosely watching for some time is now sitting by the side of the road for free.
What should I look for? How can I tell if it is a 1.5 or 2 ton?
It is very rough and unless it miraculously runs and drives and is half-way functional, it probably won't find its way to my yard. Interior is a mess, no PTO driveshaft, no air filter and evidently no title.
Thanks for any help, from central, IN. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | It's a 1.5 or 2 ton if it has 5 lug fronts and 10 lug wheels.
It's probably a 2 ton and not a 1.5 ton if the front hub caps are held on with a few screws, and not just a pressed on cap.
Also what does the tag in the door say it is?
You can quickly tell if it's a 48-53 or a 54-5 by the grill and windshield, 54-5 has single piece of glass for windshield.
