I went to a tire shop and they said that size was what school busses used to use, and are no longer manufactured. It was then that I converted to modern 16" truck wheels and steel belted radial tires. What a difference in handling too. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 707 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 707 | The 700-17's I had on the truck when I bought it had a tread height of 32" and might have been correct, but the 235/80R16 I have now are, at 30.5", about 10 times the tire. Here's a current pic with a camper, at 2,000 lbs a moderate load: click on it for a bigger image.. 1951 3800 Be the change you want to see. -hotshoe

They were on split rims and stood 34" tall. I run 750 x 16 tubeless radials now. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 25 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 25 | about what is your guys's ground clearence (from the running boards)im not shure if the tire would just go into the fender or would it bring the body up,is thier something i could do that would be the equivilant of like a 3" suspension lift with out going full blown frame switch? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Recently I've swapped the 7.00x15 split rims for tubless radial 16.5” wheels. There were two like new 9.50R16.5 tires with the rims so I used them on the rear. For the front I bought new Cooper 8.75R16.5 tires and they are the same height as the original bias plies with the intention of replacing the 9.50’s with the smaller 8.75 tires some day. My running boards have over 12” of clearance, a little more with the bigger tires on the rear. I have no trouble with fender or frame clearance and can change the tires by just jacking up on the axles. Here are a couple of pics, just scroll forward. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2780229790098611668IHElAc Denny Graham Sandwich, IL
