I am restoring a 54 chevy/3600. Its an old farm truck with a 4 speed, a granny that will climb a tree but it is scream'n in 4th at about 45mph. I want to put a different rear end to be able to cruise down the road at 65 or so. I'm looking for the newest rear end that still uses leaf springs. Does anybody have any answers?

Your first selection will be one that will match your wheel base on your 54. There are several that will bolt on with some small amount of modifications. I have an early 80s Camaro 10 bolt but you will have to deal with the 5 lug wheels with this.

Make that track width, not wheelbase, wheel centerline to wheel centerline is the measurement you want to keep.
If you use the original wheels then wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface is the measurement to shoot for.

I'm using a 70's Chevy II in mine. Like Big Chev said, You'll need to do something up front also. Another option will be to go to your local boneyard & locate an 8 lug if you dont want to change the front.
