A '58 1/2 ton short bed, stepside with the big back window. It's powered by a 235 3 speed. I've got an oil line running out of a "T" on the driver's side and around the head to the plug in the middle of the head on the pass. side. I seem to remember a previous post that touched on this but, couldn't find it. I pulled the side cover off and do not have the short line running from the rear cam bearing up behind the pushrods to the plug just below the head surface. What was the idea behind this set up?? | | |

Either the oil passage was plugged, or the cam bearings were worn bad enough that not much oil went to the valves. Or someone just didn't know what they were doing. The 235 is capable of pumping to much oil to the valves. What kind of pressure is your's showing?

There isn't any provision for the oil line that you would normally see running behind the pushrods. The rear cam bearing (where the line originates) is not tapped. There's no way to run a line other than drilling into the rear cam bearing. The only way the valve train can get oil is via this line running from the driver's side. I've owned many, many 235's over the years and I've never see one like this. As far as I am aware at this time (I'm basically the second owner) this is the original engine. | | |
