I remember them making an impression on me as a kid. I was and am intrigued by the 60 and 61 hoods. It would be so nostalgic to have one today. | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | the light trucks 58-61 were called Apache, simply a marketing gimmick designating trucks up to 9000# gvw, the medium duty trucks were Viking, the heavy duty, Spartan ... in 62 they switched to the "letter" series designations

@red58 In '58 the Cameo was also produced, not only the Apache.

I get folks on the street regularly asking all excited "is that an Apache"? [with the 57 as well as the 58] - I say "no, it's a Chevy" ... confuses them Bill | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 61 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 61 | @red58 you are right, they built in '58 only 1,405 Cameos. My Apache is a 1/2 T (3200) with V8

Even people that don't know anything about old cars & trucks still remember the name. When I got my 56 painted the body shop gave me a can of touch up paint and wrote "56 Apache" on the label. Go figure...you would think they would know.

I was flattered but disappointed I had to say it wasn't. | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 41 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 41 | Mine isn't an Apached but wish it was only because I remember seeing them on 60 or 61s as a kid. And I had someone once ask me if it was an Apache. | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 31 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2005 Posts: 31 | I love my Apache,Also had a 60 years back. They always ask me also because I removed the emblems from the hood. sorry fix link later.
