I undid the coupling for the speedometer cable but the shaft doesn't pull out. Am I missing something? I thought the cable had a squared shaft on the end and it just slid out. This one doesn't budge and I'm afraid if I pull it any harder the cable will break. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 | I just checked the cable I pulled out of my 63. The nuts will slip off both ends. If your housing and cable is not coming out of the speedo gear I'd disconnect the cable at the speedometer and any clamp in between. This should allow you to pull the cable housing away from the gear. Now the question is there hardened grease holding the inner cable in the gear or rust. Used a pair of needle nose pliers and see if you can work the square end of the cable out. If not try some carb cleaner or penetrant to loosen it. Hope that helps
