I currently have a 327 and a Turbo 400 behind it. Thanks for your patience. Any help appreciated.

If you want to retain your straight axle suspenion look into the power steering conversions that put the steering box ahead of the axle. That will allow moving the steering away from the exhaust system.
Most the big block trucks I've seen have been clipped or running Mustang II suspension.
