| | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 144 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 144 | I just purchased a new under the floor power brake unit for my 46 Chev 1/2 ton with S10 front end and Nova rear end and I will be installing it with new brake lines etc and was wondering other than the 2 lb residual valve for the front discs and the 10 lb for the rear drum unit is there any other valves or items I need to install. I see there is a manual valve for setting the pressure for the rear brakes on the market to keep them from seizing during hard braking and was wondering if it is really required as this is a street rod and won't be going to the drag strip. Any info would be appreciated. Bob T

| | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 144 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 144 | This is a universal under the floor system with the 7 inch diameter double vacuum system.Usually installed in hot rods, but will fit where the old manual system is on the left side frame rail, I don't know if I can say this but I got it through pirate jacks which I found from someone on this site. It hasn't arrived yet but the price was right. Up here in Canada the parts companies that sell them won't adjust for the Canadian dollar so I'm saving darn near 150 bucks after shipping. Same system up here with the mounting bracket runs about 450 as they sell the items seperately and not assembled. I don't believe it has the built in system as there's nothing extra mounted on it like you see in a stock Chevy power brake system. I am mainly concerned whether I should mount a porportioning valve and do they work with the residual valves installed. He said they came out of China and were copies of the Corvette MC.
I know you need a proportioning valve. If you use an adjustable one, you will need separate residual valves. I think most non adjustable GM type prop. valves have residual checks built in.
A good shop with good US made components will tell you the whole story, I'm sure.IMHO
