The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Tractor Paint Color?

All right, in my snails pace progress of working on my truck I will have to decide on my trucks outside and interior color pretty soon. I know that many of you cringe at the thought of tractor paint but money is tight and this will be a daily driver. My local store only carries a few Van Sickle colors and will not order the others. The choices are IHC red, Ford blue, Case power white, Kubota orange, JD green, Ford light grey, Ford dark grey, Safety yellow, Rustic brown, Gloss white, Gloss black. For those of you who have used tractor paint I would love to see some pics. And I am open to suggestions from stovebolters on what would be a good color for the exterior and possibly a different interior color of the '52. Thanks for all suggetions, Wayne

The IHC red or the John Deere Green look real sharp. I saw a die cast 54 GMC painted in JD green and yellow wheels, with a JD Model B Tractor on the back.That was a real nice combo.

If I was to paint a vehicle red I would consider using IHC/farmall redorange from the Case International dealer. This paint is what was the oringal color for the H & M farmalls in the early forties and mid fifties. This paint does hold up real well with paint hardner and looks nice. I have painted several farm tractors with a body shop finsh, but have not painted trucks of any kind to date. John Deere paint from the equipment dealer is also a great quality paint. Regardless what paint you use you be sure to use a hardner. This will hold the paint from fading and give it a better shine.

Which Ford Blue can you get? The old lighter blue or the new dark blue? If I could have found the new dark, I would have used it.

The blue in the link is the one I passed on.

Not on your list, but there was also an orange..not the AC orange, but another....but alas, I took the conservative road and went with red.

I believe Oliver has a Green that looks good, and with Black fenders that would look classy. The hardner is a good idea, shines better and won't fade as easy.

There's 2 different greens for Oliver, the older one is darker, maybe a few shades darker that Forrester Green that was std for Chevy. I think that color was used up to '60. Then there's "New Oliver Green", its much lighter, but still darker than JD Green. Looks real good with Oliver Clover White (which has a very slight green tint). There's also an IH Implement Blue, used mainly on plows, that's very nice. It's a rather dark color too, darker than either of the ford colors.

you could always intermix the colors and open up a whole new range of colors .white and black are shades and will lighten or darken the colors. dark green becomes mint green.red and blue make purple add white and you get lavender. possibilities are endless.get a cheap box of crayons and a sheet of paper and see what you can come up with........dave

Yea, I'm thinking that dark Ford Blue and a little black just might make an acceptable match to Mariner Blue.

Watch adding black, most likely, instead of darkening, it'll turn a muddy brown. Learned that the hard way as kid mixing model car paints. If you can find it, IH Implement Blue (plow color) is very close to Mariner Blue, might need slight lighteneing to match.
