I have new glass and need to attach the glass to the upper frame and also to the regulator. The guy who cut the new glass gave me some setting tape. Is this the best method or are folks using glass adhesive like the do on newer cars? Thanks for any advice.

| | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 388 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 388 | Hey 49B , I removed the glass from my '48 doors and the tape was still on there in great shape so I'm going back with the same type of glass tape the glass shops use today. Does a great job and very inexpensive comes in a roll. (also don't get all over everything like glass adhesive caulk)

I set the tape around the window, applies some oil, and slowly pressed it in with a bar clamp. Go slowly and you will be OK. You will need to trim the tape after you have it installed. Oh. I have a friend that installs automotive glass. He had a roll that they had not used in years (imagine that) so he gave me the roll. Now I have some for the 53 that I am taking apart.

I tried some tape my glass place gave me, but it was too thick. So I ordered the tape from American Classic and it worked like a champ! Got both door windows reset in the frame and the piece along the bottom (that attaches to the regulator channel) done in under 30 minutes. One of the easiest things I've done on this project!
