I had to replace my lower right front pilar due to rust (Dah). My new piece does not have the support brace and nuts for the door hinge. The old one is welded on and will be destroyed if I try to grind it off.

What has others done to mount a hinge on a new lower pilar?
Can I just weld three new bolts to a piece of sheet metal and then weld that to the back of the pilar? Or do I need to build the braces like factory. I'm not sure if that was for support of the door or ease of assembly at the factory.

I can't find this bracket anywhere for sale.

I made my own lowers since replacements weren't available at the time. I did as you are contemplating - welded nuts to a plate and welded that in place.

The old one is spot welded to the pillar and I got mine off without destroying them. Drill out the welds with a 5/16" drill and then plug weld to the new one. Of course that's only if the threads are still usable.

i had one bolt hole in my upper hinge on each side that was stripped out. i bought two metal hollow wall anchors at lowes ,drilled out the old bolt hole to accept the anchor and welded it in place. only down side is it a coarse thread anchor.
