Hi KCMongo smile
Nice job on that 2 ton! Let me know if you find that whip antenna smile

Hi Bill (Virginafiretruck)
Yeah, on second thought - I think I will go for that radio because I was thinking that I might as well use the speaker too!

I've been looking for a long time now for a good Moto for this Police restoration project and I think this one will do.

What is your ebay "bidder name"? smile

I'm glad you are going to get it. On ebay, I'm "vbfd18" and I've bid a max $30.

I hope I get it...I've been trying to contact the seller, but so far - no responses...? If I do get it, would you want the big radio part in the center of the photo?

No. I've got one of those under my seat already but it isn't really necessary to the rig. Good luck!

Did you all see how much that radio is going for on ebay? I'm surprised as I didn't figure there would be much interest. Holy cow!!! Good luck Tom!

Hi Everyone smile
Well, the quest is over! I have finally found my Police radio (and speaker) for my project 49 Chevy panel truck Paddy Wagon smile

Thank God for ebay!

I want to take this time to say here how THANKFUL I am to ALL OF YOU out there that helped me and took the time to respond to my post.

I literally couldn't have done it without you - for it was a 'Stovebolter' who tipped me off to the ebay listing of the item (radio) for sale.

Thank God for the Stovebolt forum and thank God to all of you truely wonderful people out there!

Thank you all very much smile

Sincerely,
Tom (49 Panel)

Tom: Congratulations! Now when it arrives if you would take a few pictures so I can see the mike and control panel close up. I'd like to find one(in time) to replace the Mocom 70 that I've put in my firetruck. The funny part is that nobody has noticed it is a newer version than should be in the rig. But I know it sn't right so I'll have to replace it sooner or later.

Hi Virginiafiretruck smile
Thanks! It turned out to be a little more than your $30 max bid...(boo-hoo) but sometimes I guess it goes that way.

I don't have or foresee having a digital camera any time soon to take any pictures with, but if you go on ebay and do a search for item #280155653838 - it will show you the pictures of the mic and radio(s) I just bought.

What I do is right-click & copy the picture and then paste it into the "Paint" program on my computer, then you can zoom and save it to file.

I am currently trying to contact a guy who specializes in radio repair/restoration to see if he can replace the old mic that will come with the ebay radio - for a nicer mic that I picked up on ebay months ago.

If he can and it's sucessful - I will have no need for the old mic and will need to let it go...!?

I never expected it to go for that much but you just never know on ebay. As for the mike, thanks. Let me know how it works out and I would be interested once I get the truck back running again. Good luck!

Hey Tom, the mic that is in the pic is the style mic that would have been with the radio originally. They restyled the mic around the time the motrac came out. Most of the Motorola mics throughout the 50's and 60's and early 70's had the same metal 4 pin connector. Congrats on your purchase, I'm sure it will look great.

Virginiafiretruck, don't be to bummed that your radio isn't exactly right, Remember that some departments kept apparatus for decades so as radio technology improved newer radios were often put in older apparatus. Your radio isn't that far off to make a noticeable difference.

Hi ddalesr3 smile
thanks for the congrats! I do beleive the mic in the picture is probably the original mic - but it looks a little rough cosmeticly. I bought a very similar mic on ebay awhile back that is pretty shiny that I hope will splice on.

Hi Guys,
Well, the vintage Motorola fire/police truck radio came in from ebay and it looks great! I WAS gonna use the newer shinny mic (that looks just like the beat up old one that came with the radio), however the part where you hang it up is different on the shinny one, so I might just use the original one, since it came with the bracket to hang it up on. I guess I won't need the nice shinny one...?

This thread won't allow me to send pics, so if interested in the shinny mic, please email me at my wife's account: vanahs@comcast.net - and I'll be able to attach pics to your email smile

I have a Motorola control head, speaker and Mike and a antana for a 50's vintage Police car and a Motorola Handi Talkie / Lunch box type portable radio.I do not have the auctal radio because that type of unit takes up about 20"x10"x12" plus all of the cables and they are Old tube radios and real hard to get and keep working. But if you are interested in them let me know I will take $50.00 bucks + shiping for them Later Sam T
