I thought I had found what I was looking for in Classic Parts catalog for 60--66 chevy trucks. I'm looking for an AM-FM CD player made in the style of that period that will fit my 65 C10. They have radios with cassette players but you would have to buy a 10 disc CD changer that costs as much as the radio to add on if you want to play CDs.
Anyone know of a place where I could get the radio cd combo?

I think most of the Custom Autosound radios either have a tape player or not, none with a CD if I can remember. I bought a AM/FM/CD player that also plays MP3's, satalite radio, etc. Its a 12 volt system and I just hooked up a 12 volt motorcycle battery in the left rear corner of my 51 Chevy. I made the battery tray and strap and its real clean looking. Hidden wires and speakers also. Thats the way I went and alot cheaper. Nice radio on Amazon.com for $89. I know this probably does not help you, but just a thought.

the reason they don't sell in dash cd radios is that the hole in the dash isn't wide enough.

The setup that I have seen being sold is a radio with line input jacks in the back and a CD player with a remote. The radio looks completely stock and the cd player can be mounted in the location of your choice.

Jon D, I had to ask my son what a MP3 is--shows how much I know about modern electronic stuff. I may put in an under dash radio cd player. I've been told that cassetts are becoming obsolete so a am fm cd is the way to go for me.

truckernix, I've seen those advertised but they had six disc players and are expensive. Do you know the company name so I can check it out?

I don't have that information as I just observed the vendors at a swap meet. However, the choice of CD player really doesn't have anything to do with the radio as long as the radio has an input jack. These days, the MP3 player is a more flexible choice than the CD player. You can put an incredible amount of music on an MP3 player including the content of your CDs.

I made a metal glove box insert in my 46 so I could mount my old stock radio from my mr2 spyder in it. It is completely hidden and works great. You can do something similar and keep your original radio in the dash just for looks. Just a thought...

I was going to install a CD changer. Then I saw a friends I-pod and realized that for me that was the way to go. It cost about what a CD changer would have, it holds all the music I own and is easy to move from vehicle to vehicle.

I bought a custom autosound stereo with remote cd player and it works great. It fits under the seat.

I believe with the i-pod plus any am/fm modern system, you can play your I-pod tunes on the fm side via an I pod transmitter, NO? Was told this by a couple people but thus far have not put the system together.

GUys what is the proper way to hook up the radio? Does it go to the battery and if so what is safest way to keep it from frying if something goes wrong. Anyone have pictures of a setup? I like the hidden speaker option on top of gas tank area with the motorcycle battery, but what is the reason fr a separate battery to radio and speakers instead of using car battery? And how do you keep it charged?
