I know there was only 1 of them right below the radio but mine was rotted out.. was it a 5x7? Also, where can I get an ORIGINAL radio for the 52? I want it to look EXACTLY like the originals. I'm willing to spend a little money to get it too.

The 47 to 50 model had a back with a joint that was on a slant on the side of the radio. The 51 to 53 model had the regular rectangular shallow back. Both models look exactly the same when installed.
The speaker was a 5x7 that was mounted inside the radio. The modern 5x7s fits quite well into the 47 to 50 model but not the 51 to 53 model. These modern speakers are the same as sold by Walmart.
The radios are a very popular item right now and in fact in the summer, unrestored examples were going for $350. Some big vendors like Jim Carter offer them for sale, restored. Also there is a thread in this forum that points out a brand new model, not a conversion, with modern electronics. These units look almost identical when installed.
You can see examples by doing a search for "47 truck radio" on Ebay. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 483 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 483 | Will proably have to take a loan out to get the radio and there is a chance it won't be working.E-bay has the lsted sometimes. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 299 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 299 | I was thinking of just buying the repo face plate and knobs and just mounting them in the dash. It would look original and new and then just get a nice sterio.Wouldn't that be ok? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 53 Member | | Member Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 53 | Thats what I did on my 69 C-10. I found an original radio in a junk yard cleaned it up and installed it in the factory hole. I was lucky my dash wasn't butchered by the po. I mounted my head unit in the glove out of sight by theives. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 887 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 887 | The radio delete plate has become very popular lately, probably 'cause the radios are so expensive!

It was in the bottom of a stack of assorted japanese compacts so I couldn't get in it real well, but I could see that it had a factory radio in it. Well, I went back a few days later, hoping that they had put it with the other old trucks in the back. I couldn't find it, so I asked where it was. Turned out the crushed it thday after I saw it. They didn't even take any parts off it, they just saw a pile of scrap metal. They recently stopped tacking old iron, so I don't go there anymore.
