This is is a question for you GMC folks.
Again, I have a 51 GMC Longbed. Question is my guages.
My guages are a dark brown background with off-white lettering. Its evident that I am the only one that has tampered with them, this was my grandpas truck, he didnt mess with them, and its definately a gmc truck. 102 22 C xxxx
Now, when I talk to Chevy Duty, Harmons, etc, they all say that a Cream background with dark lettering is the correct badging.
What happened? Anyone have info on this?
Again, NO ONE has messed with this truck 100% original except for the lame bumper grandpa put on. . .
Ideas?

Does the VIN check out as a '51? Sometimes in the old days, stuff was titled by year of sale rather than model year - a '52 (which would have brown background gauges) could have been sold in '51. It is also possible that it was a very late '51, and they were out of the cream background gauges, and just used the new ones. As far as I know, the only difference in those gauge clusters was the reversal of the lettering and background colors, but I am by no means an expert on '57-'53 trucks. | | |

Well here it is, for those wondering.
As you all know in 1951 there was a year split. A few changes occured, but most importantly is the bed from 9 board to 8 board.
With that came other changes, and in my case was the gauges. Early 51' was the dark cream background with dark lettering.
Then in late 51, they went to what a lot of part's suppliers (chevy duty) call the Chevy set, which is a cocoa background with light lettering. So I actually have to order the Chevy set for my 51 GMC Truck.
If I'd ordered the GMC set, it would not have matched.
Just an update. . .back to restoring!
