Hello all. I got my underbed tank installed over the weekend finally! now I need to mount my bed. the rear cross member is gone because of the tank so how do i mount this sucker on, and do i need any additional parts? saw other posts about earlier years refering to rubber blocks etc... do i need any of that. its a 63 stepside bed to 63 frame

do you have a factory assembly manual? check the suppliers to see what the bed mount kit contains, usually there's just some rubber shims to prevent squeaks and the bolts - lack of the cross member shouldn't have any effect on the bed, but it seems kinda iffy just eliminating it

My last rail I moved forward about 4 inches of its original place. Location brought it closer to the rear tires - but not an issue. Mine is a 59 short fleet. Maybe I'm trying to compare apples to oranges in trying to help you out. I'm outta here for the weekend - if would like me to get more involved call 480-363-9975. Sean

We have a complete hardware kit which includes the bed-to-frame bolts (which mount your wood to the truck frame), the bed strip bolts (some of which bolt through your cross sills), and the angle strip bolts (which bolt the angle strips to the edge boards. These would be all the bolts that attach the bed to the truck in any way. The part numbers are:

Polished Stainless steel:
#110360 $92.00
Unpolished Stainless Steel:
#110361 $72.00
Zinc-plated Steel:
#110362 $42.00

These kits are all for standard angles, bed strips, and bedwood with standard mounting holes (square shoulder carriage bolts), but we also have kits with ribbed neck bolts, etc.

Troy: Sorry, I have been out for a while. Glad the troops emailed information back to you. Have you figured out how to mount the bed? Like red58 said, the bed does not mount to the crossmembers, just the frame rails. If the top of your tank is above the frame rails, there may be a problem with interference between the tank and cross sills of the bed. 63 cross sills actually are spaced above the frame about 1" so as long as the tank is between the frame rails, the bed should mount as stock. Many people use the 8 rubber pads under the cross sills where they sit on the frame rails, but the rubber pads are not included in the bolt kits you mentioned. Pads are purchased separately or you can use webbing or rubber and make your own.

Removing a cross member may weaken the frame. Have you added a separate reinforcing member to take its place. I welded a 2 X 4 tubing between the frame rails at the very rear to strengthen my 59 frame. It is not near as beefy as the 63 frame and needed help.

i trashed the original. the problem was the fill tube was hitting the cross member. i saw you guys have new cross members for sale so i may purchase one and try to get it in there somewhere. Thanks for the info
