Hi Guys & Gals, I just got myself an overdrive unit for my 1965 GMC 2500, and not only an over-drive, but an under-drive as well. I finlly got a Spicer 5831-B Auxiliary Transmission for my one ton project, really cool as it's not too much bigger then the SM-420 4-speed.

Now I just need to get my butt in gear and work on this project. :shocked:

It should be bullet proof in that 2500 GMC. It looks like you will have to get creative to get that big rear yoke down to a size you can hook up to. Nice thing about that brownie is it will accept a PTO. If you ran a winch from the brownie you can put the brownie in nuetral and control the winch speed and torque with the main box.

Getting the drive shaft to work wont be a problem, I got both shafts from the donor truck, when i get this thing in, I'll just have the front half grather to the back half and presto changeo, it will fit. Check out the webpage posted in the first post, I show all the parts you should get from the donor truck, which in this case was a 1965 GMC W5500 with dump body powered by a 351 V6. Oh and I do have a 651 V6 sitting around here too to use in this project if the 305 ever gives up the ghost.

You can get them from any the to BIG truck used part suppliers, but you wil only get the transmission from them. what you would need is what you see on my webpage, and the best place is in a truck that came with one. Mine came from a truck in a wrecking yard in the mid west, it was about to be crushed when it was found by a a friend on another list, but he talked the yard into holding off on the crushing for a month, as he wanted the 351 V6.

Any way to make a short story long, he posted about the truck on the other group, I ask about the aux trans and when I found it to be what I wanted I paid him to pull it from the truck with all the other parts. The trans cost me $50, removeal $50, getting it hauled to Utah, $150. I have been quoted $1000 from truck supplier just for the trans.

So it's good to report what we find to these groups, I got a heck of a deal and the trans was one night away from being shedded into Toyota makings.

So in short, No I don't, but check out all them trucks you see in the wrecking yards, you never know what you'll find, and if it a chevy, it won't have the over-drive.

What I have now is a 1-ton with 5.14 diffs and 33" tires. I also have a 4.10 third member available (with detroit locker). If I keep the 5.14 I need the .73 OD. If I install the 4.10 I need an UD. Anyway your chart gives me the information I need if I should find a B-box.
