I think I'm 180 degrees off on the current install which is resulting in misfirings back through the carb. Also, what is the correct installation and location of the plug wires from the cylinders to the cap? Thanks for any help !

Get the #1 cylinder to TDC with valves closed. That means its at the top of its compression/power stroke and ready to fire. Pointer and ball on flywheel will line up in window above starter, indicating TDC. Now look at rotor in distributor. Is it pointing to the #1 sparkplug wire? If not, swap plug wires around so the rotor is pointing to #1 terminal on dist cap. Firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4, rotor turns clockwise.
Now turn dist body until points just open, with rotor still pointed to #1 terminal. Tighten and reassemble everything. Start engine, double check base timing and test drive.
