I was reading HotRod, the first 12 issues, and I find an article by WAYNE. It talks about the interchangability of parts between the "splash" 216 and 235. He says the parts are pretty much interchangable between the two, except for the 3/16 stroke on the crank. So I get to thinking, what is the difference between the splash and pressure cranks, other than the drilling for pressure? Like, can I use a pressure crank to make a 244 out of my 216, if I do the block mods to get pressure oiling? I know I would have to use a 235 cam, and was planning on using GMC rods, with custom Ross pistons, so would it work, or should I find something else to engineer with Pabst? smile

These guys have plowed the ground ur thinking about. Beck\'s web page Note full pressure for 216,--also look at the rear seal. Don't know how far west you are but worth a call--maybe good for parts--gud luk. smile

Not as far as you, only 15 miles west of D-Town. Do you mean to say the rear seal won't hold? I am new to all this (obviously) but after the absolutely obscene quote from the local "machine shop" to do my 216 crank, I am looking for other options...

So, if it has been done by anyone looking, what have you to say about it? Good, bad, ugly?

PS Buzz, I was gonna use that alias for my SASS name, but alas it was taken frown

Jason--

The rope seals on the 216/235 leak-- pretty much a fact of life--not a big problem but there. I haven't reworked a 216 just 235s--but those guys at Becks have gotten my attention because they have done some innovative stuff with inlines--might want to read the site. Associated with Inliners also.

These engines are expensive to rebuild--no two ways about it--gonna be expensive where ever u go. smile

Yeah, I have been to their site, I believe you recommended it to someone else earlier in the week... I just *cringe* when I think of what shipping a crank and block to California would be.. ouch!!!

Wasn't really recommending them for machine work more for parts--I'd probably try to find a local machine shop. grin

I am just finishing my 216. I was able to save a great deal of money by waiting for parts to come up on Ebay. Unlike some of the other engines, there is not a great deal of demand for 216 parts, thus the Ebay offers can be quite rewarding. As recenty as a month ago there were two different offers on Ebay of the 216 crank, ground and fitted with new bearings. The original style rods are also constantly being offered.
