Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone could guide me in the direction of brake parts for my '52 chevy 6400 2 ton. Looking for shoes and wheel cylinder rebuild kits. I finally got my 350 and Eaton 5 speed in so the go department is good. Now I just need to work on the Whoa! Any help is greatly appreciated.

I recently did the front and rear brakes on my 1949 6400. The wheel cyl rebuild kits I got from NAPA and I found a brake shop in town that relined my rear brake shoes. The front were OK.

Just got all the stuff for my '55 first series 4400 (Bendix Brakes), except shoes from my local jobber, who plugged in Wagner numbers and got all the stuff aftermarket.

Almost $300 for all the wheel cyls & hoses.

Only thing I had to substitute was later ('64-'8?) front wheel cyls because the '55 - '59 were N/A. Only difference was the angle of the boring for the brake flex hose.

You might also try looking in Raybestos - they still had complete wheel cyls for my '36 Chevy truck a few years ago.

theres room for the modern smallblocks in these things ? i cant see how there room becauseof how the steerign box protrudes into the compartment on my 53 6400

got pics maybe ?

also what master cylinder do you have in use on your 6400 ?

Sorry I never got back to you about getting a small block into the 6400 series truck. Yes it can be done and the only real problem is the steering as was mentioned. I dismantled an '84 chevy C70 with a 366 and Eaton 5 speed. I kept as many parts as I thought I would need. I scavenged the motor and tranny mounts, the trans. and engine. The 366 is just TOO big to fit so I went with the 350. It bolted right up to the eaton trans(I was a bit worried about that). The steering box had to be moved outboard 1/2" to clear the exhaust. I cut the tube flush with the top of the box and cut the shaft 1" longer. I shortened the column from the '84 and used a double D intermediate shaft with u-joints on both ends that I scrounged from a junkyard. I ground the steering box shaft to a D style and put a CR brand seal p/n 7940 into the steering tube on the top of the box where I had cut it to seal the steering box. Works just fine. But now I have come into possesion of a set of small block manifolds that actually sit above the spark plugs instead of below. I am thinking of putting a stock column/wheel back in as these will clear.
