I were to add a two position pulley to the front of the harmonic damper on the 235? Been trying to come up with a way to run an A/C compressor and power steering pump, and have come up with solution. Just need opinions on engineering worthiness. The obvious first question is, will the added weight (2 lbs.) adversly effect the internal balance of the engine? The other questions can wait til that one is addressed.

Since the weight is equally distributed around the hub, weight won't be a factor. It should be pretty simple to add a pulley sheave, either by bolting one onto the existing hub, or maybe there's a 2-groove damper available on some models?

Chevrolet did have a two groove balancer on the 235 engine starting about 1954 or 1955. Chevrolet offered power steering on the 1954 model. The second groove on the pulley was used for power steering or air conditioning. With a two groove balancer, one groove for the air conditioner, as shown in the preceeding post, and the second groove for power steering, the alternator can run off of the second groove of the air conditioner compressor, asuming you would use the Sanden-Sankyo compressor.
Fisher also makes a two groove aluminum billet balancer. It is a bit pricey, but does provide the two grooves.

I havent been able to find any stock set up for the 235 pulley's. And I do have the bracket from Vintage air that is in the picture, but that will not allow the use of the power steering pump. There just doesnt seem to be enuf room to mount the pump, alt, and a/c compressor all on the same side. Went to the bone yard Tuesday, and off of a 1980 C10, I scavenged the a/c bracket from the passenger side of the engine, with minor mod I can mount this on the 235. I took a two position water pump pulley from a '79 C 10 that I can drill two holes in (Very precisely) and mount to the front of the crank damper. I took an old single groove water pump pulley I had left over from my '46 3/4 ton project and slid it on top of the existing single pulley. Top to bottom the grooves line up. The end result when finished, is the PS pump and alt are on the driver side like they should be, and each is driven by it own belt, while providing a second "fail safe" belt to the water pump. The outer position on the crank will drive the a/c compressor with it's own belt on the passenger side where it belongs. I will of course eliminate the fan, and picked up an electric one out of a '90's vintage Pontiac TransPort van that fits the radiator near perfectly. I still have to cobble up a bracket system for the PS pump.

The engine is owned by Phat who is not on the board anymore. Sweet running 235 with a 500 cfm holley recalibrated. With air.

My 235 has a double pully on the crank. I know the engine is not original to my 49. But I would have to believe that the pulley is original to the motor.

I would have given credit to Bruce for the pic...............but I don't want to stir anything up about banned members.

It's just a picture, folks and for example only.

Subaru A/C system was used on it. The rest is visible......pretty much.

Brian, do you have a pic of the pulley on your engine?
