Sorry if this has been answered before, but I have a 1950 GMC 1/2 ton. I think they have 15" 6 lug, with 5 1/2" spacing? I'm looking at a good deal on wheels and rims (badly needed). Problem: The wheels are 16", P235/75R16. Will these work?

Welcome to The 'Bolt, tater (cute name! ). Others will chime in with more specifics, but yes, that wheel and tire combo should work A O.K. on your rig. 16" wheels were original on these rigs up until '54, I believe, when 15" wheels became optional. Most important thing will be to be careful with the wheel backspacing, you might run into interferance with your tie rod ends. If you can try one of the new wheels on for size on the front (before you buy), this will let you know right away if they will fit. Hope this helps.

hello tater. the tire size you asked about [235/75/16] is the same size as the new size on my 99 silverado. it rang a bell because in 99 i could not find snow tires as the size was so new. even goodyear did not have a snow tire the same size at that time. i was always curious to see if the silverado wheels would work on my 55 first series. so i guess i would ask if those wheels are similar to what you are looking to buy? if so i will be willing to try them on my truck before you buy them, that is i will take the spare from the silverado and try it on the ad truck. let us know if we are on the right track. good luck.

Tater, I think you'll find that you need 3.75" or less for backspacing or you'll hit the steering knuckle. Your search will be easier than mine, as I have 8-lug wheels that needed to fit over tonner drums.

thanks for the replys. garyg, you are on the right track, these wheels came off a new GMC Safari. They are on Ebay at very nice price. I would appreciate it if you could try your spare on the front of your truck.

tater, the wheels on the GMC Safari will be 5-lug wheels

They're advertized as 6 lug 5 1/2 " spacing. They come from a place that does custom vans and these were take-offs. The picture shows 6 lug. The guy mentioned they may be off a G-Van.

For what it's worth, I'm running 7.50-16, 6 luger on my '50 chevy.

I just talked to a guy at the Truck and RV store he says these new wheels won't fit over old hubs. I guess my question is to garyg. Did you get a chance to try your wheel on the '55?

hello tater. just came in. the newer wheels fit over the hub, and clear everthing but the tie rod end and steering arm. when i got a good look at the back spacing on them, i didn't think they would even bolt up , but they went on further than i thought they would. it is to bad because they look pretty good on there. i didn't try them on the back. good luck.
