I have in it now a '95 TBI 350 and 700r4. I know this seems like a step backwards, but I think I'd like a 4 spd. manual now. There's just somethin' about a 4spd in an old pickup that I like. The thing is I don't know much about how to rig up a clutch for it. I've heard something about using a hydraulic clutch so you don't have to mess with linkage and such. Could someone explain this for me? What kind of pedal set up would I have to use? Any other pitfalls to watch for? Also would the computer be compatible with the older tranny or could it just be left as is? Thanks.

You can get a 4sp from them too, but the 5sp in better if you're looking for fuel economy since it has OD. Sound like a nice set up, you have got there. What rearend do you have under it? Sorry I can't help you with any of your questions thou, you'll have to wait for the older, experienced guys to get on here.

The story went something like this. A 57 chevy with late small block and automatic wanted a four speed.
They swapped in a 90 degree mount kugel components hydraulic clutch and brake pedal setup and put a hydraulic throwout bearing in, using late model S10 or camaro parts with a muncie 4 speed, I think.
It was pretty trick, way out of my price range.
I'm sure there is a way to trick the TBI computer.

One side for the brakes and the other side was connected to a slave cylinder bolted to the bell housing or the engine block just above the oil filter. I install this set up on my '31 Chevy back in the mid 70's when I was running a big block and a 4 speed tranny. Good luck.

Can you put an "all manual" body in those to have to shift to drive? Could on old T-350s. You've got there what many of us would "die" for, better keep it. As old as I am "shifting" got old and bothersome in everyday driving. I love my auto GMC/Isuzu tilt cab truck, wouldn't want the 5-spd ever! I wouldn't put a "truck" 4spd in it, go for the racier Camaro type if you want "performance" out of it. Still think Your Nuts!
Feelin' real mean tonight...next topic!

But the older one's would take any of the older bellhousing. If you can get one of the good bellhousings, it is drilled for both the chevy and f**d bolt patterns. Then you have the best of both world's. Can use the Muncie, like the Nascar folks use, or the F**d toploader that everyone says is unbreakable. Let me know what you can do, cause I'm looking to do a late model in my '60 daily driver. Dennis
