Hi all,

I have a 1936 207 with a bent push rod that will not come out. Do you have to remove the side cover to get a push rod out? I don't know why the push rod bent but it has a good bow to it and I have a slight miss that I attribute to it. It is the #2 intake and the valve is moving normally. I have moved the rocker over and pulled with no luck, is the push rod held in with a retainer?

The engine seems to be rebuilt; it has red valve springs and is very clean. Also could some body give me valve lash for this engine?

Steve, Yes, you must remove the side plates, as I recall there are spring retainers holding them in place and they are fastened to the engine. The tappet clearance "HOT" is- Intake,.006-.008 , Exhaust, .013-.015. I do wonder what caused the pushrod to bend thus. This could turn into another book.-LOL

I have the same thoughts, other than this the engine runs great. I have a 12 volt battery and alt in the truck and she starts every time in 2 turns or less. The idle is very smooth and temps and pressure are right where they should be. I am thinking someone tightened that valve too much, or at least I hope it is that simple

Steve, I will email you this also if I miss you on here. I just remembered- those lifters come out in groups of six, I think. So you may have to loosen some more rockers. If you need some help on re-assembly, I can help you on that end.

Steve , a couple of times , in my youth , when I gave the hot 216 in my '39 the big rev It bent the odd pushrod or two

Dusty told me that he solved the bent push-rod problem by using splints,the type used for when a person gets a broken finger. :p

I had to straighten two push rods and go over several other issues but she made it! I had to fix the parking brake lever and both rear cables, someone did a bit of shade tree engineering. I had a leak at the oil pressure gauge and I put tail lights and mud flaps on for the drive.
