Anybody done this swap out? Thoughts? (It's actually for a '53 Belair/3sp).
The money I save as a mechanic, I spend on medical bills!

It is easier to install a v- motor than a 250, because the 250 is at least 3" longer than a 235. There are plenty of them up here in portland. You might also look for a 261 out of a 2-ton truck or school bus.

The 250 block is slightly longer, but narrower, and uses side mounts and a cross-member under the tranny. So, you get to weld up some motor mounts, fab or modify a cross-member for the tranny, and put in an electric fan since you won't have room for the standard fan. Also, the clutch linkage changes.
I'm having a hard time believing that you can't find a good 235 block, around here you could get one in a day. Can some of you Oregon bolters help Jim out on this?

I was just given a "free" 49 5-window in southern Oregon with a 235 in it . . . all beat to crap, but it is a runner and driver and the price was right! Put the word out that you are interested in getting any old chevy truck parts - people know I am somewhat insane when it comes to old chevy trucks and I am always having people ask me if I want one that they have. . . I bet if you posted an ad in the local classifieds you would be over run with 235's within a few months!  | | |
