#28830 02/19/2003 5:22 AM | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 354 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 354 | I have a leak from the steering box on a '41 that appears to be coming through the threads of the thrust bearing adjuster. It's dry everyplace but on the bottom where the locknut fastens the adjuster. It's more than just a drip, will make a puddle in a few days. Anyone seen this before and is there a fix for it? Someone suggested putting in chassis grease instead of steering gear lube, but I don't think that's a good idea.

As I recall, the booklet recommended putting some Permatex gasket sealer on the threads before installing. I didn't (what, me follow directions :p ) and mine leaked there. Now that I am doing a frame off, I WILL seal those threads before I reinstall the steering box.
