Nova rear ends are too expensive and hard to find around here. Would you keep the original leaf springs and remove/replace on new housing, or is there another option? Main reason for doing this is to switch to a 3:55 ratio. Engine will be switched to a 261 w/ a saginaw 4spd.

His rear came out of a t-bird. We need to get back to work on it and weld on the spring perches, he has the pumpkin built. He also has the 261 and Saginaw 4 speed. Shaved and ported head, cast Fenton headers, dual Weber progressive 2 barrels, full race cam. He has an engine to be proud of.

You have to cut the old hardware off the rearend and weld on new spring perches "if it's a Chevy or **** Rearend". The only problem with a **** is the different lug pattern!!! Your looking at 2 different lug patterns and carrying two spares or having the bolt pattern re-drilled to the Chevy pattern out back so they'll all match. You can pick up the new spring perches at a local trailer supply store or online at http://www.summitracing.com "that's where I buy mine".

I had a '69 Impala 12-bolt in my '49 that was just the right width (62" flange to flange). I recently replaced it with a '67 **** Galaxie/LTD 9-inch that is exactly the same width. I made the change so I would have a matching bolt pattern with the Mopar front suspension.

I bet that once you get a niner cut down, new brakes, and new wheels for it you could have an original appearing 3.55 setup for about the same price and it would be new.
