I have seen a few 292's that were "warmed over" with plenty of aftermarket goodies...but will a stock 350 make move hp for a longer time?
Are the parts for the 292 more $$$?
If i move to the 350 will the stock tranny take the extra hp?
I plann on keeping this truck for quite a while as my work / toy pulling beast, but am not sure which direction to go in.

Parts for the sixes are always more expensive and you can get a long block crate 350 for about $1200 with a warranty. Your tranny should be fine unless you plan on drag racing. The 350 will drop right in and if you regret it later, that 350 will go into any number of vehicles. I like my sixes and plan on keeping them, but I also like the 350's power in my '82 C20. Just my opinion.

Keep all your pieces/parts from the 292 so you can switch it back later if you do not like the 350.
Everything is pretty much bolt in so the swap will be easy.
There is enough good in the worst of us and enough bad in the best of us that it does not behoove any of us to criticize the rest of us.

So a swap it is..I have a line on a buick 350 and a pontiac 350, same as a Chev 350 ?
What is the difference if any?
What will i need to look for to do the swap? Who has done this? TIPs? Websites?
Totally stoked to do this , I cant wait.

#26891 10/27/2003 11:31 PM | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | Buicks, Oldmobiles and Pontiac share a common bellhousing (commonly referred to as BOP bellhousing) and will not interchange with the 292 which shares it's bellhousing with the chevrolet small and big block V8's. The 350 is by far the cheaper motor to warm up and put in your rig. I am building a 292 and if you look at it from a $/hp standpoint . . . the 350 is between 1/3 and 1/2 the cost, but not nearly as cool.  | | |
