I was of the understanding that the 53 was the last year for the grey engine. I also am trying to restore back to the original colors. I was told by professionals restores that at least the 54, both early and late 55s engines are blue. I was advised to buy the paint from Bill Hirsch Paints. They have correct colors and are rated for high tempuratures. I have just finished painting my engine with all the original colors. I hope this helps.

You will find around 30 entries and a lot of opinions. My 1954 Chevrolet manuals state gray for trucks and blue for cars. 1954 Chevrolet color sales brochures show pictures of gray truck engines and blue car engines. The 1954 235 engine in cars was called the "Blue Flame Six" (a version was used in the 1953 and 1954 Corvette). Tim | | |

Brother in law has a 54 with a gray engine, all original. My 52 had a blue 216, original. Drove a 52 with a 216 in high school with a gray engine. Have seen 54 & 55-1's with blue engines. Notice a pattern? I don't! Pick the color you want. If you want blue, Plasticote makes a Chevy blue engine enamel that is the closest I have found. Can't help on the gray, though.
