well, even though i have a 37 1/2 ton, a 46 1/2 ton, and a 50 1/2 ton just lying around the farm, my first vehicle will be a 89/81 F*rd F150. Truly, i hate that pickup, but because of a lack of funds, im rebuilding the engine in that (friggin little 302), and using that as my daily driver (at least until i get a job and some money for the 55 belair, 56 2 door 210, or the 37, 46, or 50 pickups..).

One other reason why im rebuilding the 89 F*rd is because my cousin is a die-hard F*rd fan, and this way i can get major help from him (hes rebuilding an 80 F150 and putting a 460 in it, and he owns a 93 lightning, which i respect alot).
The 302 is being rebuilt to be completely stock, and i was wondering what i could put on it to get some significant power gains without going broke.

Drew

Yea, its another everyday driver, but at least it has a v8 instead of a straight 6....
the main thing that i want to do with it besides making it look a bit better (paint chipping everywhere, get a few dents out), is getting the chassis more performance oriented...all i need to do that is get the front and rear sway bars, lightning 1" drop springs, and some stiff shocks..

At least this engine needed a rebuild tho, cuz #8 cylinder was burning oil badly, and #4 was never firing.....and when we tore the engine down, we scraped off about an inch or two inches of grease and mud off of the engine block and intake..
It was a dirty experience.

Hey Drew, how's it goin'? First off (and OH MAN am I gonna get flamed for this!) absolutely nothing wrong with an F-150 for a daily driver, unlike my own F**d truck mistake-a 1989 Ranger. The 302 is a fantastic engine which will take all of the abuse you can pile on it, provided you properly maintain it, and they are better on gas than the 300 inline six F**d used in these trucks! As for performance mods, how much do you want to spend? You can go with K&N filter and air intake, a chip, maybe headers and a cat-back exhaust-after that you'll be into changing that stock rebuild engine you were talking about. Sounds like your cousin has the right idea for go-fast by putting the 460 in his F-truck. There's only so much HotRod you can get out of something with a box on the back...without spending BIG BUCKS! Why not just fix it up into a clean daily driver/partschaser, and save the rest of your budget for your project vehicles? Just my $.02...

Wannabe smile
