It's in very good shape and I'm thinking of buying it for a project. can anyone tell me what engine would be in this truck? The guy told me that it had been rebuilt not too long before he got the truck. Which is possible, the engine was clean and painted up nice. Thanks for any help. | | |

Is it an original GMC engine?If you look at the distributor,just to the left there is a machined pad on the block at the base of the distributor. The first three numbers will show something like 228 or 248 or 270.

If you want to know for sure, first make sure it's a GMC engine (GMC on the valve cover), then check the #'s in the machined surface just to the front of the distributer. The first three #'s will give you the cid of the engine. ALL jimmy motors are better than chevys!!!!  :p | | |

Now that I think about it...I think it said chrevrolet on the valve cover...but I'm sure it's a GMC truck. I'll have to go back and check it out again. He's got two trucks that are just alike (one GMC, one Chevy) The GMC is all in good shape, except for the floor boards and windows. and the chevy has some good parts on it, but no windows. He wants $800 for both trucks. Does this sound like a good deal? Thanks again for the help and quick responses. | | |

Also I'm glad to hear of a junkyard in La that still contains old chevy parts/trucks that haven't rusted away yet. My brother was at Ft Polk in '73 or so and lost something there. He lost it right after leaving the tear gas training session. Good luck with the new find. Jacques
