Having purchased my first retsoration project a 46 2-ton flatbed. I am very concerned about stopping any load I might haul on it. Could someone give me a headstart on brake mods that have worked on similar vehicles.

i am working on a brake job on a 47 (early) 1 1/2 ton. it looks as though the stock system is the way to go. my hydro vac drum seems to be bad as the pedal is sucked to the floor with the engine on. i have seen some posts about a split master cylinder (front/rear) and that sounds like a good idea. i plan to have my local mechanic do it because things are sooo rusty and i like the idea of professionally done brakes. tell me what you know!!!

I have a 45 2 ton Chevy I did a complete brake job a few years back, all new hydraulic parts,hoses,master and wheel cylinders,brakes relined at a local shop, the drums were just fine,cost about 300 bucks for the parts. Make sure you check out the axle bearings carefully.
Our 45 truck has no Hydrovac, it stops just fine. My wife drives it around town with no problem, if you intend to carry heavy loads, a vacuum assist is nice.
