I have a 41? 2 ton chevy with a flathead six and I need to find out year model and engine info, has been sitting a long while but have suspicions it will probably run with a little work.

Pics? Any mane, numbers or other relevant info cast on the block heads?
For sure it's not stock GM option.

I don't think you mean "flathead". The stock motor would be an inline 6 cyl. 216 cubic inches. Single barrel Carter carb. Points and condensor under distributor cap. Either a 3 or 4 speed transmission. You could possibly have a 5 speed under or overdrive tranny, but that was usually for slightly bigger models than yours. Go to the gallery and check out similar models. Some of those guys have web pages that will get you a good start. Before you start tearing into it, have a goal in mind first as to your finished product. And then stick to it. It's the mid-course corrections that cost the real money.

First. let's find out if you have a flathead engine. Are the sparkplugs in the side of the head or on top of the head?

Here is a flathead in a Chevy truck (check the first link). And a discussion about the possibilities. The truck did not sell and a week ago it was relisted with a 292 engine, I think.

That flathead looks like a Studebaker L-6. Used a Carter carb; dist. is in the center of the drivers side at a crazy angle, the oil pump is all the way on the other side of the engine, down low. The ignition coils are mounted upsde down like that, as well as using a generator for electrical. Ignition and generator are probably made by "Autolite"........ :rolleyes: .
I recall this because I grew up around a '60 Lark VI with the L-170.

Maybe I was too obtuse above and too tongue-in-cheek in the earlier post of the "Rare Chevy flat headsix". Also, sorry I forget to include the link to the earlier discussion (I edited my post above and the link is now there - the original eBay listing is no longer available this morning).

Chevy did not have a flathead six (of course, Ralphy is correct). However, texacowego might have a non-Chevy flathead engine in his truck, placed in there by someone who did not have access to a 350 V8.

Ralphy, Do you have the eBay name of the person who listed that truck with two different engines (and two different engine bays)? People might want to avoid bidding on his listings, even though they might be good for a laugh.
