while driving home ;last night the truck shut down and coasted for a block or two then back fired. did this a couple of more times then drove the rest of the way home ok. temperature about 45. i have a 235 with a dual carb setup, no heat riser. may have blown out the mufflers, deeper sound now, new duals last summer. any suggestions. ron

That happened to me once - it was the electronic ignition. The 1 week old muffler was ruined, so I took it back to the shop and said "How about that lifetime guarantee?". The shop owner said "That's abuse!" and I replied that it was an accident. We agreed that I would pay for the installation only.

Anyways, I put the points back in the distributor and tossed the 2 year old electronic ignition unit. Things were OK after that.

So my advice is check your ignition. Look for loose wires that may have cause an intermittent connection. What type of igniition does it have? (stock or electronic)

Maybe you're pumping more fuel with the dual carb's than a 235 can drink? I messed with putting a 2bbl on our 235 and bout burnt it up---but I'm not much good at carb's

Just a thought.

I suspect that your carbs iced up, then the ice melted and it worked ok. 45 degrees and normal or damp humidity running along at part throttle is perfect carburator icing weather. Run heat to the manifold and it will not happen any more.

i thought the carb icing was the problem from what had been said on here before. but it sure made the mufflers sound louder, read better. i hope nothing else happens to the mufflers they are only 6 months old. i plan to put flowmasters on it later, maybe i won't have to now. i wanted a better sound like a v/8. i am going to order the heat riser from langdon's later this spring. ron
