Hey guys. I just had a good friend who is a mechanic take a listen to my engine. i ended up doing an oil change yeserday so that's fresh. I haven't done a valve check or re-adjust yet,..probably later tongiht. However, as we listened to it he told me right away that is was the water pump! he listened to it with a piece of metal rod and then did I and yeah, sounds terrible!!!

Soooo,..here's my question. Can i rebuild it? If so what's the best way (any tips/tricks, etc.??) and if its rebuildable where can i locate parts?? Thanks in advance as always! You guys have been a great help thus far with it!

You could probably find the bearings by matching up the old ones but it would be hard to find the seals. You should be able to buy a reman for $25-35. smile

By the time you do all the things a rebuilder would, you'll spend at least 3 times the cost of a reman unit, and you won't get a warranty on your own work, either!

Do you have a press setup for removing the pulley? If not, try a local mom & pop parts store for a rebuild. If they don't have a rebuild, go to the links section and check with the on-line vendors.

Well if you buy a remaned pump I suggest you hold on to the old one until you have installed and run the new one for a few days or weeks. Heck the core charge maybe so small that you could just keep the old one.

I bought a brand new one from Chevy Duty a few weeks back for about $40. Might want to check them out.
