I need some help finding the paint codes for my 51 suburban seat frames. From looking at pictures and the old paint on mine, It looks to be a dark brown?

Any help finding this info and who would sell it?

Most likely is was called Wicker Brown: PPG/Ditzler 20947 or Dupont 93-55045.

You might like to check out the tech note on Jim Carter\'s page they also happen to sell the paint bottom of page. One thing to note to the tech article is that your 1951 burb would most likely have black windlace as do most 51 trucks both my 51 burb windlace is black.

No offense to Jim Carter but he is totally wrong with regards to all the 1954/55 Chevrolet Suburban interior colors that he mentions and also wrong with the upholstery color. (The GM document shown at the link matches quite well with the original colors in my 1954 Suburban.)

His write-up on 47-53 Suburbans is quite interesting.

You might also be interested in seeing what color cab windlace (upper and lower) he sells for the 1951 Chevrolet Suburban.

You know the 54-55 burbs I bet Jim would like to hear your info cause I do really think he likes his information to be correct. About the cab windlace I sure don’t know, but I can say 1951 trucks and burbs that I have seen and I have made a point in asking 1951 owners what the had in their trucks and four other burb owners and so far all have told me black (I meant barn or field fresh type trucks). Thanks for the link I am always ready to lean more about these trucks and suburbans most of all and enjoy learning from your post. Would love to get together and talk burbs sometime.

I like to talk Suburbans anytime. I saw the most beautiful unmolested western (dry climate) 1950 GMC Suburban (with end-gate and original spare tire carrier) at the Wendell MA show in early August. The best thing about the truck is that there was no doubt that everything was original - I learned a lot.

I contacted Jim Carter about his 1954 Suburban seat covers, which are all maroon (as was the case in 1953, I understand). He seemed to not care that the 1954 upholstery is/was different from what he sells (I have original upholstery as samples). Moreover, his patterns for the seat bottoms are different among the three seats - they should match in general pattern (even if they are not maroon and gray, as original).

I also had problems with the cardboard headliner (cut to be too small at some corners) and a cardboard side panel (one hole drilled in an obviously wrong location).

Nonetheless, Jim Carter has a good selection of parts, which are as good or better quality than most other vendors. He also stands behind his parts. I could have asked to return the parts but I needed something, and I was not interested re-upholstering the 8 seat cushions or refitting (and retrimming) 5 pieces of headliner.
