what a pain in the*%#& to try and fire off my 54'burb by myself with that factory starter setup.what is involved in doing a upgrade to the starter with solinoid mounted directly to it like a modern gm starter.this burb isn't stock and i would much rather just turn the key. was it 60' when they finally got rid of that bs.foot pedal? i really like being able to use my remote starter when i'm checking the engine and carb settings.thanks

cars had solenoid starters back then, just hafta find a starter your voltage and install a car ign sw ..... but the foot stomp can be activated from under the hood using a large screwdriver or other bar between the floor and the button, cheaper

i do like the cheaper part! it seems that whenever i'm trying to get a old motor fired off i can usually count on carb problems(dirt) and if i could use remote starter i can stand close to carb. my remote switch has foot operated option,custom feature to free up both hands. used a old sewing machine foot pedal a mounted switch.

Just an observation....your 54 engine, if original, is running a 6 volt 139 tooth flywheel
with a 6 v footstomp starter. Your 59 if stock, is a 12v 168 tooth flywheel.....a 59 solenoid controlled 12v starter will not work on your 54 6v flywheel. And BTW...a footstomp starter in the cab draws as much attention as a pair of carbs.....

Once you get your T5 installed along with the appropriate Holley/Weber or a pair of Carter/Webers you'll rarely need to be under the hood making adjustments. You'll be out cruising the streets of Tacoma and enjoying driving your Burb!!!!!!!!!!!!

my goal is the "UNFINISHED NATIONALS" in elma wa. at the end of summer. if the beater burb of tacoma makes 1 show i will be happy.it's been off the road for 20+ years, it's gonna be like a cheap re-make of "FRANKENSTEIN LIVES"

IF! the only reason it won't happen is if my health take a wrong turn. the only thing good that came from my poor health is my computer skills have improved. i still don't know how anyone(unless it's their job) can spend endless hours on the computer.getting out and cutting and grinding improves my mental health. i need some quality shop time. see you in McLeary steve!

i will post some soon on webshots. nice metal work! i need to kick it into a higher gear on mine.health issues limit me on my progress, my problem is i over work myself getting plenty done but pay for it 3 days later. if i get it to safely drive around by the end of summer i will be satisfied. it was purchased in may 2007 so if it motors around in 90 days that is fine by me.
