Was stainless outside window trim on the two side back windows of an AD suburban available? I have seen pictures of burbs that have bright trim on those windows but never seen one in the 'flesh'. ( I don't get out much!!)
Have they had them chromed or was that a factory option?
Thanks
Ter

Stainless or chrome window trim for rear/side windows was not an option on AD Suburbans...However, I've seen them chromed and I've also seen the original steel trim effectively polished and clear-coated. SS trim for the barn door windows was an option.

My '55 1st GMC has stainless trim about the windows in the doors only, also.

I've often wondered if the trim around the side windows had been painted at some time, or if more stainless was an option.

It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...

I'm not sure the front door window stainless trim was an AD Suburban option...they were part of the "Deluxe" package for PUs and I think panel trucks. Like the SS fender trim, we sort of "morphed" them to Burbs since the front doors and fenders were basically the same in all AD trucks.

The availability of stainless steel (bright metal) door-window trim options (SS reveal for side door windows) might have been different on New Design GMC trucks (47-55). The Chevrolet Truck Data Books indicate that bright metal side door window reveal was not available in 49 and 50 on Chevrolet Suburbans and Canopy Express.

That also seems to be the case in 1954/55 for Chevrolet Suburbans. RPO 390 Deluxe Equipment and RPO 393 Chrome Equipment did not include bright side window reveals for Suburbans (but the Suburban 390G did include bright front window, ventipane, and rear window reveals).

Ter's question was:

So, the rear door windows on a Chevrolet Suburban might have had stainless trim around them but none of the Chevrolet Suburban side windows would have had stainless trim/moldings. It looks like the rear window stainless (on rear doors) was not availble on Panel Trucks (maybe someone has better information on this).

I found my rear window stainless (barn door glass) along with the 14 piece fender stainless trim on an AD Panel truck (one owner) in a barn in Kansas. It was original optioned equipment...the barn doors had the factory mounting holes for the trim.

Wow !
Thanks for the responses !
So.. it sounds like the AD suburbans with "shiny" trim around the side back windows have had painted trim chromed.
I thought that the stainless trim on fenders and back door windows was only on panels.. and I think 1949 or so. Seems strange that this cosmetic option would be available on the 'utility' model
Thanks again everyone.
I will stop looking for that shiny trim !

Does anyone know where can I find the trim to goes around the rear side windows on the outside and the inside for a 1950 Suburban. The ones on mine are totally rusted through and useless.
