Posted this in HIPO as well but figured I'd ask here as well. Thinking of adding side pipes to my 61 panel. Anyone done this? Thoughts andcomments please!

Expect any females to refuse to ride with you a second time after they get burned.

Well my wife refuses to ride in any of my old trucks but I do need to consider my 4 year old son. Dynomax makes a set of side pipes with heatshields. That may be an option.

Just put them on a don't hook them up. If you want to you can weld them to the exhaust pipes but do not put any holes and they will get warm but will not burn anyone. It may sound Crazy but, thats what I did when my Kids were little. It looked Good but, I don't recall that many people looking underneath the vehicle to figure it out.

i would love to find a set of ZOOMIES...they were exhausts that had 4 pipes which came from under the body and upswept just before or after the rear wheel opening...looked sorta like headers on a dragster

On a Corvette for example chrome side exhaust get much hotter than black painted pipes, chrome will burn you if you even get close to touching them black paint is a little forgiving.

Scavenger pipes would look good.

If you like the looks of 'em,go for it. I like side pipes, and ran lake pipes (functional) on my '55 Ranch wagon for years. cool
FWIW-Every woman that rode on the back of my Harley, somehow, ended up "branded" on the inside of her right calf. eek There quite a few ladies with my brand before I sold the bike, and many were repeat offenders. grin

I'm going to put scavenger pipes on my '59 panel. They won't burn any more than the pipes on my Fat Boy or Road King.
