As I stated in another post I'll be taking the front suspension out of a c10 and putting it into my 49.

Over the past few days I've been thinking about using the rear-end also but I've no idea what year the truck is, which I'm going to need (I think) to figure out the gear ratio on the rear end.

If anyone can identify the donor truck's year please give it a try. Should say up front that it's a horrible picture but I only got one of it by accident.

Edit: If you do a google image search for "chevy 10" it looks kinda like the first black truck.

Looks like a '64-'66, with the sloped windshield pillars.

The windshied on the 63 & earlier were wrap-around and 64 became more straighter. For 64 the bodies looked the same, but the cabs were heavily restyled, with totally new windsheilds that also changed shape of vent windows and gave A-pillars a backward slant.
1963 the available options were back-up lights & chrome rear bumper. For 65, series identifications was moved above the upper feature-line front fenders. This small change helps to distinguish these trucks from 64 models, which were identical otherwise.
In 1966, the series id nameplate was slightly redesigned and moved below the front fender "pinch" again. The 327 was optional for the first time.
To me,the lights make it look like a 65 or 66 because of it's small chrome rim. Hope this helps you and & I can look for other features if you explain.

With this info, what gear ratio's were available on the rearends for the 64-66 trucks? (If you have it)

More importantly, were the gear ratio's available suitable for a daily driver/highway driving truck?

Heading off to google right now so will check back later if anyone has this info.

There were three ratios available for that year range for the C14 and C15 series (C10 1/2 ton):

3.73 standard (also available w/ posi)
3.07 "Max. economy"
4.11 w/ overdrive trans.

As to daily/highway driving suitability, what engine are you using? The 4.11 is what your '49 should have now (if original), so no advantage switching there. The 3.73 would be better, but many guys still prefer a higher ratio, especially if running the early 6-cyl. engine. The 3.07 would be best for highway, but may be more sluggish around town, and worse when hauling loads or towing. Here\'s an opinion from another thread.

The width of the rear end is a consideration, also. Another alternative is a swap to an overdrive tranny.
