I've been eyeballing the late eighties truck tank as I'm going injected and will need the pressure and return lines. But it looks like it might hang to low, maybe 6 inches or so below the running boards.
Suggestions??
BTW, this is for the '47 to '54 version. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 44 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 44 | Here's on I was looking at last night: http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/jou...amp;action=view#Rear%20frame%20and%20cab It's a 54 truck but, works the same for panels/subs. Another thread: http://www.stovebolt.com/bboard/cgi-bin//ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=000797 As for me, still undecided. I'm not going with fuel injected though. I want to get my rear suspension in first (hopefully this weekend) and then measure what's left. 1954 Chevy 3100 Panel Truck 2004 GMC Yukon 2002 Chevy 1500 4X4 "Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it." I think looking at your journal is what prompted me to ask this question. I don't remember seeing pics of your new filler location. Is that part done yet or are you waiting to find your tank?? I did see the pics of where you filled the old hole. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 244 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2002 Posts: 244 | I don't know if you have enough room under your Burb but a late model Chevy/GMC poly tank may work. It'll have the high pressure pump, return line fitting and it's not heavy like a metal tank. My '56 Burb body is mounted on a '00 GMC Sierra chassis, using engine, transmission, all the oem parts including the gas tank. I had to remove the tank yesterday to replace the fuel pump which is held on with two straps. Fairly easy task. I can take pics of the tank if you want. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 151 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 151 | I just showed what I did in a '46 Panel in this thread. http://www.stovebolt.com/bboard/cgi-bin//ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=004283 It should work for a '47, the tank it right at 23 gals.

Forgot to subsribe to the thread so, I didn't get emails on the posts. Anyway page 11, entry 12 shows a photo. I don't have the door on at this point. It was a kit I bought from Hagan. They also supplied the frenched license plate box you see in the image. From viewing various websites/projects, there's a fairly wide range of gas tanks that will fit off of salvaged vehicles. I'm waiting until I get my rearend/suspension finished then, I'll take the tape to the frame and see what kind of room I have to work with. I can't explain why but, I have an aversion to poly tanks. Not that there's anything wrong with them that I know of. It's just me...I like metal. 1954 Chevy 3100 Panel Truck 2004 GMC Yukon 2002 Chevy 1500 4X4 "Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it."
