'40 Suburbans' either GMC or Chevy, in relatively complete, restorable condition, are very rare, period! Completeness of sheetmetal is key as it's difficult/expensive to replace. Value is very subjective, as you can only sell to someone who wants and appreciates that period Suburban and can afford to restore it. What is the owner looking for $$$?

I agree, $12,000 is a lot for a rusty truck, but if its both complete and bascially rust free, it could sure be a lot cheaper than fixing a rusty one!

Thanks for the input, the one I am looking at is 100% better than that one, I am pretty sure it is also rust free, no bondo type thing, has all he seats and are in good shape, chrome is good on a scale of 1-10 I would put it at a strong 8.5 to 9
I first saw it about 3 years ago and was very inpressed then, I have fooled around with old cars for a while now so have a keen idea on what is good and what is bad, If it looked like the one in the link I would pass on the deal, anyway thanks for the thought. Chris

What are your plans for this truck? Show or driver? Stock or retro-rod?
If it's as complete as you say...$12K is not bad (hell, the seats alone are worth $2k or more!).
If you can complete a resto of this truck for under $15K for a total of $25K you've got a winner.

For what its worth, I paid 12K for my 1940 GMC pickup last year. Its a nice, older restoration.

Remember the other guy, that was on here look'in, for a '47-'55 Canopy express, to use as Advertisement, for his Business. Well someone, on here, found him a pretty nice one, for a very good price. He bought it, then, next thing you know, it's For Sale, for nearly twice the price, he purchased it for. Even used the pictures, from the Ad, from where he bought it, for his Ad.

So the guy bought an old truck & now he is sellin' it. B.F.D.

He can do what ever he wants.
If he can make a few bucks..... more power to him.

M.T.,

Sure he can do whatever he wants, but I think the folks above feel this gentleman came on board with $$ questions with the intent of a "dine and dash" so to speak.

This forum is usually more about working on the old iron than making a fast buck on a re-sell after milking the "good old bolters" for fare market value info.

Making a few bucks isn't always what life is about, sometimes it's about character.

From what I see... he asked what the value of the truck was, bought it & is now selling it.

This is a great place to get opinions of the value of an old burb.
Thats what the site is here for.

Sounds like the guy was makin' sure he wasn't payin' too much for the truck.

Millions of people sell vehicles everyday !
Why pick on this dude ?

You wanna pick on people who make money selling old vehicles ?...
Check out this site.... http://www.barrett-jackson.com/ ought ta keep ya busy for awhile.

I guess everyone who answered his questions expects a cut of the selling price ?

I'm sure most of these guys, including myself, saw on the oldgmctrucks.com website, where he posted all those pictures, & talked about getting it home, fixing it, & getting it back on the road. Never mentioned reselling it. Yep, it's definitely, his business, what he does with it. If it had been me, I would have mentioned, the reason I was wanting value, was for resale purposes. That's just me.

I don't think that anyone who has questions about a truck around here are compelled to give you their life story or their ultimate plans for the truck.

It never ceases to amaze me at all the so called " know it alls " that offer up advice & answer questions so willingly .... then get a bad attitude later on.

If you are gonna get all bent outta shape cause a guy took your advice here & sold a vehicle for a profit.... Don't bother answering any questions at all...... Or maybe you should start charging to answer questions if that will make you feel better.

If a guy wants to sell his truck this isn't the place to get help. It just causes trouble. If he was up front about it that's different.
My 2 cents.

OK , OK well first off to the guys who deffended me , my hat is off to you and to the guys who hammered me , well the same old story I see all the time, it's called envey, your just upset because you were not the one who found it.Ok first and formost as with all good people who are allowed to do what they so choose to do with what ever they have in there life, if I bought the truck and set it on fire that is my own decision to do so,I have never and never will use or abuse any one person or web site in an act of decention to make a profit for myself. So with that said I was only testing the waters on the Jolopy journal site to see just what they are realy worth,( we are allowed to do that over there) I still have the truck and am still planning on doing just exactly what I said I was going to do .As fare as asking questions on this site, any one with half a brain who is about to spend a large amount of money on his investment better have enough sence to check out and do a little reaserch on what he's doing , so he doesn't get jacked by someone like you.I have always tried to go out of my way and help others
and offer advise to others just to simply help my fellow rodder, old car or old truck guy make sure he's not getting pounded by guys like you.
So with that said I want to again thank those who deffended me and offer advise to those who pounded me, take the advice of your commrads on this site and run with it, lets keep this an enjoyable site and not a site for the unhappy guy who didn't get a suburban this year. Thanks for letting me express myself. Chris

HMM : lets see could it be because its not for sale and should I ever decide to sell it, this would be were the smart guy would list it, not on the Hamb were they sell hot rods. Chris

RustyNutz, well here's the deal, why don't you go back and read the add on the hamb a few times and then come back and tell what it say's, (Just thought I would hang it out to see WHAT HAPPENS
and if you follow my posts you will see me refure several times about how I realy do not want to sell this but just seeing whats up)So in the future make sure of what you read before poping off, just a tip, but thanks for the two cents. Chris

Spanky thanks for the concern here, Gotta tell ya though, if I was planning on selling it I would have listed it here, and only here and just for the record I would have said so in my inquires as to the value, it was just that, I wanted to make sure I wasn't stepping into a big pile, a funny thing, I was contacted by someone from this site who wanted to buy it and was very interested in getting it and as willing to step up except when it came right down to it he told me it was worth according to the book , which ever book that might be, was only 4k, well if I am about to spend 12k on something I want to ,make sure I wasn't betting ripped off, I think thats called covering your base's. I here ya Dude. I ain't mad at ya. Don't think anyone here meant any harm. Just might not have used, the right choice of words. I see what you're saying, & at the same time, see what everyone else is saying. We'll all, just have to agree, to disagree.

Spanky, Thanks, I am not realy mad at anyone , more or less deffending myself, I just don't understand why people have to think that they are so dam perfect. The thing that realy gets me is when I travel to another site and see the same guy slamming me over there, only thing I can figure with a guy like that is he must be unhappy in life or something because I have always thought these kinda sites are for helping each other out and sharring things with other who never get to see a truck like this, but again I am not mad eather and thanks for takeing the time to reply. so lets not all get our underwear twisted up here just because someone misunderstood what was said.
hell u should be me, with the meds i take i'm always hearing stuff that wasn't said, & even w/it in print its not always easy to read what the intentions may be....joe
Joe very well put, I have to say if I made something out to be that wasn't I am sorry for that, I never expected to come back on here and see I had few unhappy guys beating me up on two differant sites. But then again there the experts

don't let then fool ya, hell if someone hadn't told them lots of the info they have, they'd know no more about these trucks then i do & i don't know schitt about them. now i have lots of info on them BUT thats only because of i gathered it for that last 10 plus years.

chris there is a bright side to things, at least here you won't get ur [censored] chewed out && handed back to u for not doing an intro like they done many times over on HAMB, those guys have been known to be TOUGH on newbies if they don't follow the rules, BUT then again it's Ryan's site over there & those are his rules. Hamb has a LOT of GREAT folks over there just like the folks here on the BOLT, its just a different breed of folks over there & some of us like to mingle among them all.
IF it wasn't for the help i have gotten on HAMB, here on the Bolt & other sites i belong to i most likely would be sitting here wondering WTF do i do next. several of the folks here & on HAMB have helped me not only w/my rides but w/personal problems dealing w/everyday life, some have helped financially by buying stuff from me to help offset the cost of our trip to San Diego to watch our son graduate from Marine Basic Training, heck over on HAMB Shiftymutt gave me a travel voucher for almost $200 to help w/getting our plane tickets. how do ya thank a person for that?? the words Thank You just doesn't seem to justify the deed.
so i'm sure u get the idea, its not perfect anywhere, BUT if ya were to break up the bad & good on either boards i'm sure u'd see a LOT more good then bad coming from either of the boards.
soooooooo whatsa going to do w/the beast??? leave it stockish?? restro rod it?? or are ya going to make it a belly dragging, low riding, asphalt scrapping low rider eek grin grin hell i love them all...joe

one more thing Chris, i'm sure the purist love me too, my burb's on a stretch S10 frame w/a 425/400 caddy combo in it. it far from being done & it's WHAT i wanted to do w/it. i'm building to please only 3 people in my life, myself, my wife & my son and personally (no offence to anyone) i could care less if someone disagrees w/what i'm doing w/it because IT's MINE [/b]
Ya I know what you mean, I have been around the hamb for a while and have seen alot of [censored] over there, but you are right it's Ryans spot and you have to respect that.As fare as over here this a
great site as well, I think it's like I said , guys like them that hammer people over here and there and other sites just plain must live a dull life and it gets right down to just being enviuse that they were not the one to find a geme like I found.I also couldn't agree more with do what you want to with what ever you have thing, I also only have to please my self and family, not some jack [censored]'s like them. After all they offer such good advise that they are so uneducated when it's comes to being a friend or mentore or helper to those who do not know. Now as fare as what I plan to do with it is keep it as close to stock as possible but update the drive trane,I like the vette rallys and tha slamed look as well, but the best part is know matter what I do when I go to a show or event I
unlike them will be driving something very differant. So with that said you have a very merry christmas and a happy new year. Chris

P.S. go over to the old gmc truck site and read the post that my long time friend GMC John had to say about these kinda guys, it's in the e-bay lead posts. Chris

BUT knowing this bunch of folks most would look past that above statement & help you out anyway.....joe [/b]
Joe your point is well taken, sometimes I do get a little carried away, I think I just got caught up in the moment after going back and fourth from one site to the other and seeing the same guy over there as well slamming me, I just kinda got nut's.I think everyone is intitled to there opinions and when it's negative towards the guys post, fine have your thought but don't get in the guys mind with something you believe over what he's saying, its kinda like telling your wife she isn't pretty when you said I do, somethings you should just keep to your self.I mean if I see a guy buy something and then turn around a sell it, after he just got it , so what thats his buisness, I had this happen to me a few years back on something way differant and I was just as confused then.Any way thanks for the thought, and you have a Merry Christmas and Happy
new year, and you know it could be the other way around, I have some parts they might need. Chris
