My problem is that I need a pair of e-brake levers for my truck, and I can not figure out exactly what year model rear axle he put in. Therefore, I don't know what year model e-brake levers to ask for. Perhaps one of you can ID it for me?
It appears to be a GM Corporate 8.5. It has six lug wheel flanges. It has self adjusting drum brakes. It has no brake adjusting slots cut in the back plates. It has "GM8" embossed on the lower left front of the pumpkin. It has "C235" embossed on the lower right rear of the pumpkin.
I have scrapped and searched all around both of the rear axle tubes, in hopes of finding a stamped code. So far, no luck.
It had leaking wheel cylinders. I just replaced them with 1955-1972 Federal Mongoul wheel cylinders. They were an exact match, and a perfect fit for the old leaky cylinders.
I am thinking, and I could be all wet, that based upon the last number in that "C235" code, that I am dealing with a 1955, 1965, 1975, or 1985 rear axle.
Does anyone have a clue what year self adjusting brakes first appeared on Chevy trucks? What year did rear drum brakes go away? Can anyone ID this axle based upon the information I have provided? | | |
