OK so I knew it was a bad idea.
After removing, cleaning, painting and planning to drive the next day, I realised that some dufus at an unnamed autoparts store gave me the wrong gasket. So I called around and found another one (at 7:30 pm on sat night) much to my surprise. At around 9pm that same night I tried installing the 2nd gasket. WRONG GASKET AGAIN!.
At this point I decided to take one of the gaskets that was wrong and make a gasket. I had to drive the Suburban the next morning. (and I might have been a weeeee bit impatient)
After cutting and sealing I finally got it together. Then when I cranked it to move it out of the garage I noticed gas dripping from the fuel pump.
So much for driving it the next day.
So when I finally did drive it a few days ago on I24 into Nashville, it was no big surprise to see a small puddle of oil under my truck after it sat a while. My gasket held supurbly everywhere except..........the top.
So today I hope to get the "proper" gasket and rid myself of this oil leak once and for.....well..... a while anyway.

Call Nashville Engine Parts Warehouse. 615-833-4000. Talk to Jackie, and tell him Jerry Herbison reccomended him. He can straighten out the gasket problem if anybody in Nashville can! Of course, he might charge you double for knowing me!
wink wink wink

Thanks. I had Kelly stop by Oreilly's. They had it. Of course it took 15 minutes for the guy to understand "PUSH ROD COVER GASKET", not Valve Cover Gasket.
