For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 69 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 69 | I thought since the engine had to be pulled on the 57, this would be a good time to address the front end. I would like to do the Mustang II weld in kit, but finances won't allow it. So, got a hold of a 1979 Firebird for front graft and rear end - steering column. I've got the engine, fenders and such off. Started to level the car and ended up with a sore head from scratching. Question: how do you level a unibody car? I tried to level the front subframe underneath the body where it ties to the body. This is the only straight area. There is no place on the body (that isn't banged up). Should you use a line through the upper and lower ball joint centers? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | I once cruised parking lots until I found the right car so I could take measurements at stock ride height. Basically I pulled up with a tape measure, laid down next to the car on both sides, and measured a few key points I'd already identified. I noted the tire size for reference, and made sure all four were the same.
Then I left quick before anyone took notice...
