My 59 1/2 ton has nice 6 lug 15 inch wheels but not the kind with the clips. The repop Hub Caps are very nice quality. Does anyone know if they work with the 15 inch 6 lug wheels that do not have the clips? I have the wheels that are without clips and have the three knuckle bumps. These bumps are way too wide to fit the new hub caps. Wonder what wheel cover or hub caps were used with these wheels? Are the mounting clips available?? Any information is appreciated.

The bump style are quite a bit newer. Not sure what year they changed. You can get the clips from Carter\'s , but even if you attached the clips to your wheels, the caps would not fit flush to the wheel and would be hard to keep them on. I have seen the clips attached to 70's style ralley wheels to use the OEM caps. I'm going to attempt that on my '59 but haven't tried it yet. You could probably use caps for a 60's or 70's car or truck or a generic set of baby moons common on trailers if you want to stay with the wheels you have.

You know when I had these blasted and powdercoated a nice chassis black, they came out beautiful and perfect, then I had the new radials mounted and balanced.....I knew it was too good to be right... I will find something to dress them up til I run across 5 more correct 15 inch wheels. Thanks

I think I'm in the same situation. My newly acquired 51 has one original wheel and 3 later 15-inhers.

The problem with the newer wheels is that the pad where the clip would mount is about 1/4 inch deeper in relationship to the raised portion where the knuckle bumps are.

My quick assesment is that if you could shim the pad up 1/4 inch and get the clips in the right spot, that might work. Problem is shimming 1/4 inch, and finding the correct length rivets.

My plan of attack is to find three original wheels.

If you want to go the clip/shim rout let me know... I have a bag of clips I'll sell you cheap.

If the URL works OK theres some words and pictures about how I fitted the original style hubcaps on 15" "Rally" wheels on this page on my website. Scroll down the page for the wheels section.

You could use the small hub caps from various passenger cars. They fit over the bumps. You can find them repo.

If I could figure out a way to take these later wheels and get the original repro caps to work with clips like you did Stuart, I would. You did a heck of a job on those. In my case the seating rim of the hubcaps are just a bit too big for the dish opening in the wheel. i am gonna use these for roller work and find the originals with clips, or holes for the new clips.

I’ve just spent the last hour looking at your pictures, very nice work Master Giles. I really like to see someone that takes it on their own to build what he needs instead of simply calling Billet Engineering and ordering the parts.

I'll retract my statement about the small car caps being retro. I guess I was thinking about the full covers which are available at Danchuk and Classic Chevy Int. I have seen 54-55 car hub caps on the later wheels with the bumps. You probably have 60's wheels which have the 3 bumps and used a small cap. Truck Shop has the small caps for 62-64 trucks.

Denny, Thanks for those kind comments about the work on my website, but I think Sue is probably still blushing!

Stuart.
