I have a 54 chevy pickup and I want ot lower the front end and keep the straight axle. I don't want to drop it much 2" or so. What is the best way to go?? Dropped axle or springs??

The springs are less $$ and less work. Usually a few hours.
Drop axle= more $$ more work. Iv done em both.
Check out my '54s in the gallery. Marty Flores' deluxe 54 panel and 54 5 window pickup.
4" drop axle on the panel,,mono-leaf springs on the pick up.

I don't have first hand experience on this, but I've heard a few members here complain about the ride of the mono leafs. Maybe delux54 can comment on that as he has done it both ways.

Got front monoleafs on my daily for many years and love 'em.
Takes a while before they break in.
They never wear out or bottom out and can handle more stress than the stock springs.
Jim Durant makes them for many models and supplies all the vendors.
He is local here in s-ca and very good to talk to by phone.

remove a few leafs from the stockers it's free and easy. 2" should be had with maybe 2-3 leafs?!

That would be the cheapest way, but gives a stiff ride and more bottoming out.
On trucks I would try to preserve the load specs.

Another option are the 3" drop 2-leaf front springs from Posie. Don't know anyone who has tried them though.

I had a poor experience ordering rear leaf springs from Posies earlier this year for my coupe.
They could not get the center pin location right and seemed to rather specialize on ford hot rods and knew little to nothing about Chevy specs.
They shipped two separate sets of springs that didn't fit.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably try removing some leafs because the truck is leaning to the drivers side anyway.
I now have another problem! I am looking for a slip yoke to fit a 3 speed tran from 55-64. It has to be 1 3/16 with 16 teeth. I pulled the tork tube out & put a newer rear end in my 54 to get hwy speeds & all I need to get a drive shaft made is the yoke.Anyone outthere have one or know where I can get one?
